I have experienced these same symptoms you mention along with my entire cookbook library randomly disappearing. I sent two emails along with a screen shot of the certificate expiration notice- no reply. This site is in "beta", but this is alarming. I don't suppose that this has anything to do with not having a designated cookbook for many months? I am concerned.

I haven't gotten those notices but more often than not when I try to pull up the site it is blank unless I enter through my dashboard and even then I usually can't see the home screen. What is phile doing?

And, there's no longer a link from 101 cookbooks! Too weird.

I have had the same home screen issue. In the past I could use the URL <library.101cookbooks.com> to enter the site. This URL displays a blank page all of the time this morning. The link for our library has been moved to the left side of Heidi’s home page under “This and That”, but it is broken- i.e. displays a blank page. Since my emails go unanswered, coupled with no direction or comments from Heidi for many months, all the while she is active on <101cookbooks.com> posting as recently as OCT 27, I conclude we have been abandoned boys and girls with no explanation.

I first started experiencing site issues a few months back, (disappearing posts), and when I contacted Phile for help, I was told at the time Phile was working on other projects and may not be able to work on my problems anytime soon. I use this site frequently both to provide my thoughts to others, as well as to flag notes for myself, about the recipes and books I like. I will probably try to move some of my notes to Eat Your Books to at least remember things for myself for the future, but I hope this site isn't ending- love the community here and it is kind of depressing to have actively contributed for a while and not know why/when/if we are losing it.

Hi!

Hi all - sorry for the radio silence! I was travelling in India and prior to that it was incredibly busy getting ready to leave and whatnot. Lots going on. So, the short answer is, it is completely my intention to keep this forum available if at all possible. I think it's an incredible resource and community, and I'd love to keep it thriving. That said, I definitely rely on support from Sho & Mike, and they have a bunch of stuff (aka jobs and other projects) going on as well...How about this? Let's keep this thread going and attempt to make a short list of any technical issues you're seeing, and hopefully we can pick them off. I need to update the featured cookbook section as well (blush)....I'll do my best to touch base with Sho & mike in the coming weeks to see if we can remedy some of the issues so the site is functioning the way it was prior. Happy holiday all! And, again, apologies for being off the radar for so long. I'm definitely back. -h

Happy you are back Heidi! I find participating in this community to be fun and quite rewarding so definitely hope it continues. Regarding technical issues, whatever Sho and Mike straightened out a few weeks back cleared things up for me. Happy Holidays!

My take

I would certainly be very disappointed to lose what we have here. At the current time the site is buggy- sometimes it works normally and sometimes it limps along. When this happens, there are random things that malfunction. The site does operate, though intermittently. So there are bugs that need to be fixed, and I don’t know how to get the attention of someone who can address the issues. In the meantime, if the symptoms don’t worsen, we should still be able to make use of it however frustrating it may be.

The site certificate is a validation of the URL the browser is attempting to reach. When the certificate is not current, there is some risk that the site reached will not be the site programmed. Here, I believe the risk is minimal. We all are very familiar with the site and how we interface with it. I believe that the outdated certificate is not contributing to the site malfunctions. Though it is an indication that the site is not being maintained. My real concern is with the URL license. If it is not kept current, the site will shut down.

We all enjoy the use of this site on a no-cost basis. We should understand that operating any site has costs. I have a pretty good idea that there is an affiliate relationship with Amazon and that provides some revenue but the reality may be that the site operates at a loss. A loss is certainly a reason. But whatever the reason, the right thing to do is inform us, the “members”. Lets hope that the right thing will be forthcoming.

I love the community too and I have enjoyed the flow of people that have come through here over the past couple of years and making connections with people from other parts of the world who share my love of cookbooks........I too, would feel sad to lose that....

I can't get on to the home page either and my cookbooks and recipes have gone too........I am relieved to hear though that others have been having that same issue with the security warning - I thought it was just me and have been avoiding signing in because of it!!  Best wishes to everyone.........

Site works periodically for me. Sure hope we don't lose it. I would greatly miss the contact with all of you. Wish Heidi would at least explain.
