I turn to this cookbook frequently not to make the recipes as written (necessarily, though sometimes I do just that), but because it's a great jumping off point for simple meals. The recipes are healthful, use common ingredients, and they're very straightforward... exactly the way I like to cook. I especially love the west indian red beans & coconut rice.
It's eclectic, beautiful and simple. A good one to pull down when you need some inspiration or just don't want to think! An important thing for a mother of two!
This cookbook has won the hearts of our household! Inspired by many cultures, many of the recipes are creative, unique, and almost never disappoint.
I love this cookbook! I have cooked with Moosewood's cookbooks for many years and this is one of my favorites. Some of my favorites are the Navaho Stew, Lemon Pasta, the curry spice mix.
I adore Moosewood recipes. I have 6 other Moosewood books, and love them all. I particularly like this book for its very simple and delicious recipes. Last night when I wanted something yummy to eat, but didn't want to go to the store....I looked through my pantry, then sat down with the book and the Szechuan Silken Tofu jumped off the page at me. It was so good, like Chinese comfort food. Honestly, it is my go to book right now.
I find Moosewood to be hit or miss -- I'm thinking about trading in my copy of Low-Fat Favorites -- but I've gotten a lot of use out of this one. Two recipes I've gone back to again and again: Asparagus Avgolemono Soup and the Lemon Herb Tofu.
