US author Jack Bishop has a readable style and presents his luscious recipes in a detailed and orderly manner.. very easy to follow, they "deliver perfect results with a minimum of effort". The recipes include antipasto, soups, pasta, rice, polenta, gnocchi, eggs, legumes, side dishes, panini and bruschetta, salads, pizza, calzone and focaccia, tarts and tortas and desserts. Many were gathered travelling in Italy and from his Italian grandmother... they feel fully authentic with a modern twist.. I always find something I just have to try.
This is one of my weeknight goto cookbooks. Many of the recipes need only a salad and good bread to round out the meal. It also doesn't require you to dirty alot of pans. It's adventerous enough that most of the vegetables don't live in the freezer but homey enough that my husband doesn't give me that look of long suffering. Back in my college days I went to italy and this type of food was what I remember eating.
I've really enjoyed this book. I've enjoyed everything from soup to polenta to pasta sauces. I'm very impressed by Jack Bishop's books.
