I read so many cookbooks, magazines and food blogs that I seldom find myself surprised by a flavor combination but Ina Garten has stepped completely out of the box with this one. Fennel, figs and crushed tomatoes replace the usual eggplant in an otherwise typical caponata. An outstanding addition to my appetizer repertoire.

These beans made an appearance at our Thanksgiving table too minus the pine nuts. The garlic, lemon zest, Parmesan & parsley added a nice zing to a typical side dish.

This pie received favorable reviews at Thanksgiving dinner but I didn't care for it myself. If the recipe hadn't been advertising itself as pumpkin pie, I might have liked it but if I'm having pumpkin pie, I want it dense & highly spiced while this one is more custardy with notes of rum and orange zest. I did not make the whipped cream at all because I didn't want to stray too far from tradition and the traditional "whipped cream" in our family is Redi Whip!
