Beautiful, comprehensive and a journey in itself, this cookbook combines fantastic recipes with a taste of travel writing. The authors have included both classic and modern recipes from different asian regions, and really get a the heart of the flavors. They often have many variations on a recipe, such as different dashi broths, depending on need, taste and ingredients.
I have an older copy of this book which is huge and picture-heavy. I have tried many recipes from this book and have truly enjoyed them all. They are diverse, simple and inspiring.
As my library has started to overflow, I'm very picky about the cookbooks that I purchase - my apartment simply doesn't have the space! This will always be on my shelf, however, and I have purchased it as a gift for others. You get a lot of content for your money.
I like it but I hardly ever cook from it, just like all my other Alford and Duguid books. It's just fun to read for the armchair traveling. Their recipes do work and they give good hints for pulling things off in a Western kitchen. I am tempted to get Naomi's newest book.
